GEOTHERMAL WONDERLAND

Pōhutu (‘poor-hoo-too’) is the largest active geyser in the southern hemisphere. She erupts once or twice every hour and sometimes reaches heights of 30 metres (100 feet). Pōhutu means ‘constant splashing’ in Māori.

BUBBLING MUD POOLS

Bubbling mud pools can be found all over the city, bubbling and plopping away.  The steaming bursts of mud reach temperatures of up to 95°C (about 200 °F).  Sit and watch them for a while – they’re mesmerising.
